Does the future belong to librarians? Is Library Sciences the new geek magnet? Rohit at Influential Marketing Blog seems to think so. He points to a burgeoning generation of librarians that are blogging, using wikis, and involved in all kinds of social media and don’t find any of it new or threatening…in fact, they dig it and they definitely get it. And this generation, along with like minded revolutionaries already in the field, will usher in a new era of user-created content that is leveraged and supported by an army of…you guessed it: Librarian Geeks.

Meet your new boss: are we entering the age of KM mashups? With clunky old, unused or underused KM systems littering the storage of most companies, will the new ability of mashups be able to save the day by making a usable interface that connects new social media and that old but robust KM system you paid so much for? KM Now! definitely sees this potential as the new New thing, and seems like there’s lots to love: he envisions a world where new user created information can intertwingle with KM edited and indexed material; then that information can surface together with the more accessible user created material, thus enhancing all streams of info.

And finally, over at findability.org, PeterMo discusses a way PowerSellers at eBay are using search: they purposely misclassify stuff in order to grab the attention of buyers who love to hunt–and a lot of those are PowerBuyers (I don’t think that’s really an eBay term but it should be). I was in the library today at the UW showing it off to a friend of mine, loving the expanse of it and the mix of modern and old, high tech and low tech, and again, I was reminded of how much I just love to search in libraries. I don’t want the exact thing–I may well want what I don’t even know exists yet, that which is waiting for me to the left and right of what I came for. Applying that same notion to this selling technique at eBay, you see who the PowerSellers are aiming for.
